Expanding My World
Recently, I've began looking inward and realizing that my world has been getting smaller and smaller. I have a small group of friends that I see regularly and a small family here in Toronto and little by little, my social world began shrinking because I've failed to grow it.
As a result, I've decided to take up invitations by people I wouldn't normally go out with. Namely co-workers. I like to keep work at work and work relationships as work relationships. However, being in a professional world (as opposed to an academic one), your workplace is your main source of socialization, of meeting people.
Today, I accepted an invitation by a co-worker to go to Bier Market. We went, and had an excellent time. The place was very laid back and because everybody has a pint of beer in their hand, it's easy to make eye contact with just about anybody, and toast to them. I danced like I haven't danced in ages, with complete abandon.
We later went off to Revival Bar on College street and attended the Mod Club while one of my employers, Hi-Octane Creative, promoted an event on the lower level. Again, sooo much fun! Somewhere in the night, I picked up Hi-O's SLR camera and began shooting. Once again, handling a camera seems to metamorphose you into God. Women love you, you're the center of attention and everybody wants you to look their way. I met a ton of people on the dance floor, even having the usual girl who wants to take a picture of/with me.
Lesson of the night: begin accepting invitations to go out. Turns out, people you think you may not be comfortable out of the workplace with, will end up matching your taste in music, dance, drinks and social life.
Next week, it's my birthday, we'll be hanging out at The Laugh Resort. Can't wait to meet even more people.
