It's been a while...
It's been quite a long time since I managed to get a blog through on iPedro.com. Much has happened since I last posted my thoughts here.
Let's get on to updates...
I'm now "this" close to getting my first George Brown certificate in Foundation of Graphic Design. I've recently completed one more course and have the final two on their tail ends.
Last November, I took the plunge and began studying graphic design and it has proven to be a rollercoaster ride ... worth riding! It's incredible how that one decision has influenced my life for the better in so many ways.
Not only have I met many new people, making many new friends along the way, I've made an impression on industry leaders who happen to frequent or teach @ GBC.
I was invited to an apprenticeship at Hi-Octane Creative by my Photoshop instructor roB Breadner and soon after, offered a job.
While working my Calvin Klein gig, teaching Portuguese for the TCDSB and accepting Mystery Shopper assignments, I now have an extra professional burden, one that has definitely been worth taking. I've been emersed in the graphic design industry at the Hi-O design studio and branched on to a new path of club event promoting.
While learning the clubbing circuit and meeting the people in the business, I've formulated an event of my own to be faced by my Portuguese community website www.TorotnoPT.com and backed by Hi-Octane Communications. This is a leap in the right direction for TorontoPT which has been running a bit on cruise controle for the past months.
As a result of this upcoming event, I've met DJ Luis Esgaio, a big name in the Portuguese radio biz and together we plan to branch TorontoPT into podcasting and event promoting.
While all this happened, in the background, I finally made my giant leap of moving to a bigger apartment. This has been high on my priority list but I've lacked the guts and the cash flow (until recently) to support the move to a good neighbourhood and a 1 bedroom apartment where I can entertain friends and live my home life in a little more space.
Goodbye Parkdale, Hello Trinity-Belwoods Park. My new apartment is around the Queen side of Belwoods Park and steps away from the hip and trendy parts of King West.
I believe I'm on a transition to yet another of my lives, away from FOB (fresh off the boat) and towards a successful new entrepreneur lifestyle.
As I've told Krystal today --I had to put your name in here since I'm fairly sure you might be reading my blog for the first time-- I believe that the key to a successful life is to live many of them. You only have one life to live but many --hopefully-- years to live it. Too many people spend it living their same life, being the same thing, knowing the same people, living in the same city or country.
Through my quarter century life, I can say I'm proud to have lived 3 lives so far. My childhood in Toronto, my teenage years in Portugal, and my newcomer to Canada life from 20 to 25 years old. I've been many things, experienced many adventures and misadventures and have attempted to leave my mark wherever I've been.
Moving forward, I hope advance into my graphic designer life while further getting into royalty possibilities such as publishing children's books and turning TorontoPT into a profitable endeavour all while living in my new apartment where I hope to make new friends and enjoy the parks and cool shops and people in the area.
